The Lexington - Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG)Division of Engineering was looking for a cost
effective and minimally invasive technique for armoring a streambank that was eroding below a walking path. As a demonstration
project, EcoGro constructed in place nearly 30 linear feet of 18” Filtrexx Edgesaver. The 4 foot bank of exposed soil
was protected by 3 layers of EdgeSaver, anchored to the bank with LockDown netting for extra support. Native grass and wildflower
seeds were applied to establish a dense vegetative cover along a no-mow riparian buffer strip. Willow stakes were planted to provide
more ongoing support and structure.
In addition, we installed five layers of 12" EdgeSaver along 20 linear feet of adjacent exposed stream bank. Because this second location was not receiving as much scouring force as the first, we were able to use smaller EdgeSavers and demonstrate a wider range of material applications.
