EcoGro, a division of Advanced Mulching Technologies, Inc., was contacted to perform erosion control and native plant establishment on a stream restoration project paid for by the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Department. When pools were pumped down during construction, a Filtrexx Filtercell was used to remove sediment from the discharge before entering the stream. Biodegradable erosion control blanket was applied on the banks of the river to hold the soil during plant establishment.
EcoGro planted native grasses and wildflowers as well as temporary cover plants to prevent the slopes from eroding. The native plants not only provide a more pleasing appearance but also quality habitat along the stream channel and riparian buffer area. Trees were also planted along the riparian area to further strengthen the banks and provide shade for aquatic organisms.
In addition, we have been providing an ongoing monitoring and maintenance plan to remove invasive exotic plants and ensure the success of the native plants we installed.
